BlackBerry Curve Ranked Bestselling Smartphone In The US

RIM’s BlackBerry Curve line of smartphones has been crowned the best selling smartphone in the United States.

Research released by IDC.com shows that, during the fall of 2009, the BlackBerry Curve outsold both the iPhone and Motorola Droid.

Many of the BlackBerry Curve sales can be attributed to the success of the Curve 8300 series—the direct ancestor of the Curve 8530.

The success of the BlackBerry Curve is directly attributed to its ease of use, low price, and presence on all of the major US wireless providers’ product lines.

The newest iteration of the BlackBerry Curve, the Curve 8530, features many improvements in hardware and software functionality. 802.11 b/g WiFi, a faster processor, an optical trackpad (which replaced the 8300’s iffy trackball), and many other strong improvements are included.

Four other BlackBerry models were included in the top ten best-selling smartphones of late 2009, including the Bold, Tour, Pearl, and touchscreen Storm.

It’s interesting that only four of the phones listed on the top ten list feature touchscreens: those being the iPhone, Motorola Droid, BlackBerry Storm, and myTouch 3G. Future top ten best-selling smartphone lists will probably include many more touchscreen devices as touch technology improves.

You can get a Curve 8530 for free on either the Sprint or Verizon networks.

Both Wirefly.com and Amazon.com offer the Curve 8530 for free with a 2-year service plan or the renewal of a current plan.

The Curve 8520 is basically the same phone as the 8530, though it lacks 3G data speeds.

The Curve 8520 is available on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks, and can be obtained for free through either Wirefly.com or Amazon.com with a 2-year service plan or renewal of a current plan.
